The stadium was built between 20 on the site of the Kingdome after voters approved funding for the construction in a statewide election held in June 1997. Located within a mile (1.6 km) of Downtown Seattle, the stadium is accessible by multiple freeways and forms of mass transit. The venue hosts concerts, trade shows, and consumer shows along with sporting events. The complex also includes the Event Center which is home to the Washington Music Theater (WaMu Theater), a parking garage, and a public plaza. It is a modern facility with views of the Downtown Seattle skyline and a seating capacity of 68,740 spectators for NFL games and 37,722 for most MLS matches. The stadium became known as CenturyLink Field following Qwest's June 2011 acquisition by CenturyLink and was nicknamed "The Clink" as a result it received its current name in November 2020 with CenturyLink's rebrand to Lumen Technologies. Originally called Seahawks Stadium, it was renamed Qwest Field in June 2004 when telecommunications carrier Qwest acquired the naming rights. Located in the city's SoDo neighborhood, it is the home field for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL), the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL, the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer (MLS), and OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Fans looking to walk up as few of steps as possible should aim for the lowest rows in section 129-141. The player benches will be on the West side of the field with the Sounders in front of section 133-134. Seats on the West side will also access their sections from the tunnels at the bottom of the section. Sideline sections will have between 27 and 30 rows for some of the most passionate MLS fans. For midfield sections, look at 108-110 or 134-136. Lumen Field is among one of the most exciting places to watch a soccer game and the lower sideline sections are the best standard tickets the Seattle Sounders have to offer. These are the best elevated views in the stadium. These rows hang over the Club Seats, bringing them closer to the field than you'd expect. Sections 132-138 are on the Seahawks side of the field. While upper deck seats aren't always the most desirable, Charter Seats on the 300 Level provide an excellent experience. This includes all sideline sections on the lower level and the first five rows of sideline sections in the upper deck. Tickets in these seats do not have special privileges, but their location makes them highly coveted. All Charter Seats in the 100 Level are within 30 rows of the field and have an unobstructed view from behind the player sidelines. Charter Seats at Lumen Field refer to seats in the 100s and 300s that are commonly sold in season ticket packages for Seahawks games.
